Shanxi Museum is located on the west bank of the beautiful Fenhe River in Taiyuan. It covers an area of 168 acres, with a construction area of 51,000 square meters and a total investment of nearly 400 million yuan. It is one of the largest large-scale modern and comprehensive museums in China. The key construction projects during the Ninth Five-Year Plan period are also the largest cultural infrastructure investments in Shanxi Province since the founding of the PRC.

        The Shanxi Museum complex consists of the main building and the four-corner auxiliary building. The main building is shaped like a bucket, with four wings stretching, symbolizing the abundance of prosperity and stability and auspiciousness. It also interprets the ancient people's aesthetic orientation of architecture such as "birdskins and feathers" by modern technology. The four corner auxiliary buildings are office building, conference center, convention center, and art center. The entire building complex is like a mountain, with ups and downs, and a magnificent atmosphere, becoming an important landmark cultural building in Taiyuan.

        The Shanxi Museum was formerly known as the Shanxi Education Library Museum, founded in 1919, and has since changed its name many times. It has been called the Shanxi Provincial Museum since 1953. The foundation of the new building was started on August 10, 2001, and was completed in 2004. It was named Shanxi Museum.

        As the largest cultural relics collection, protection, research and display center in Shanxi Province, Shanxi Museum has gathered the essence of the province's cultural relics and has about 400,000 precious collections. Among them, the Neolithic Taosi site cultural relics, the Shang Dynasty Fangguo cultural relics, the Jin and Sanjin cultural relics of the two weeks period, the Northern Dynasty cultural relics, stone carvings, Shanxi local ceramics, Jinyuan opera cultural relics, and Ming and Qing Jin Shang cultural relics are quite distinctive. In addition, our library covers an area of more than 1,000 square meters, complete basic equipment and facilities, and a sound management system. The library has over 160,000 books and over 110,000 ancient books, including 888 letters and 5043 rare books. Recently, it has also been rated as the “National Key Ancient Book Protection Unit” by the Library Department of the Ministry of Culture and Social Affairs.

        The Shanxi Museum's basic display is based on the theme of "Jin Soul". It consists of 7 historical and cultural topics including the cradle of civilization, traces of Xia and Shang dynasties, the empire of national power, a melting pot of Buddhist ethics, the hometown of traditional operas, and Jin and Shang dynasties in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Five art themes are composed of the elites of mountains and rivers, Hanmo Danqing, Fangyuan World, and Porcelain Garden. It firmly grasps the "bright spots" of Shanxi's historical and cultural highlights, and breaks the traditional display mode. It combines the history of things with historical objects to form a highly acclaimed display style with distinctive personality.

        In addition to the basic display, the Shanxi Museum also held temporary exhibitions according to the characteristics of the collection and the requirements of the times, which greatly enriched the cultural life of the masses.

        The Shanxi Museum also has fifteen fully functional departments including the Department of Safekeeping, the Department of Public Services, the Department of Science and Technology Protection, and the Cultural Relics Information Center, as well as advanced building automatic control systems, security technology defense systems, fire monitoring systems, electronic ticketing systems and cultural relic stores, and foreign Restaurants, tea houses and other perfect service facilities.

        As the inheritor, pioneer, and guider of the Sanjin culture, the Shanxi Museum adheres to the principle of "three closeness", insists on putting social benefits and mass needs first, and strives to create a true "art hall for art display. Students learn "Classroom, a paradise for people's leisure," has made positive contributions to the socialist spiritual civilization construction and the social, economic and cultural development of Shanxi.

Pavilion size

        Located in the northeast corner building of Shanxi Museum, it is divided into two floors, and the exhibition area is about 2000 square meters. Equipped with various exhibition walls, exhibition stands, display cabinets, lighting, audio and other exhibition facilities. Suitable for all kinds of large and medium-sized books, paintings, photography exhibitions. Since it was put into use in 2009, it has successfully held "Jiangshan Duojiao-Liu Rendao Art Exhibition", "Humanity and Love-Li Zijian Oil Painting New Century Tour Exhibition", "Zhao Meisheng New Freehand Works Exhibition", "Yao Dizhong, Zhang Ye" , Lin Peng calligraphy works exhibition "and many other large-scale exhibitions. With the continuous improvement of the popularity of the Shanxi Museum and the level of its curation, the Museum Convention Center has gradually become a platform to promote and showcase contemporary contemporary art, especially the culture and art of the province.
