The twenty-first Century Maritime Silk Road Expo and cross strait economic and Trade Fair (referred to as "maritime silk Expo and maritime fair"), formerly known as Fuzhou international investment promotion month, was founded by general secretary Xi Jinping. In 1994, in order to further optimize the investment environment and promote Fuzhou's opening up to the outside world to a new level, the first China Fuzhou International Investment month was successfully held in Rongcheng. In 1999, Fuzhou municipal Party committee and government expanded it into a cross-strait economic and trade fair, referred to as the silk sea Expo and the cross strait fair or the cross strait fair, which strongly promoted the vigorous development of Fuzhou's export-oriented economy. After more than 20 years of development, Haisi Expo and fair has become a gold lettered signboard to attract global capital.

In January 2018, with the approval of the Party Central Committee and the State Council, it was agreed that the cross strait economic and trade fair should be renamed as the 21st century Maritime Silk Road Expo and cross strait economic and trade fair. The 21st century Maritime Silk Road Expo and cross strait economic and Trade Fair is the only Expo entitled "21st century Maritime Silk Road" approved by the Party Central Committee and the State Council.

As the only national trade and economic brand exhibition integrating "maritime silk" and "cross strait" elements, the maritime silk Expo and fair has been upgraded from the cross strait trade fair to the 21st century Maritime Silk Road Expo. It has further expanded the cross strait trade and economic transactions, further strengthened the exchanges and cooperation with countries and regions along the 21st century Maritime Silk Road, and further enhanced the competitiveness It has improved the opening-up level of Fujian and Fuzhou, and effectively promoted the construction of "Digital Fuzhou", "maritime Fuzhou" and "platform Fuzhou".

Adhering to the previous theme of "expanding cooperation, deepening cross-strait integration, and sharing development opportunities", this year's Haisi Expo and fair has carried out innovative activities such as "cloud investment promotion" and "online exhibition" to reduce the impact of the epidemic on Haisi Expo and fair, Find new opportunities in the crisis, realize the digital transformation and upgrading and online and offline integrated development of the Haisi Expo and the fair, and build the Haisi Expo and the fair into an important platform that breaks through the time and space constraints and integrates investment cooperation, first trial and commodity trade
