The main building of Shanghai Exhibition Center was built in March 1955. It is the earliest exhibition place in Shanghai after the founding of new China. Over the past 40 years, it has held many major political and foreign affairs activities, received three generations of party leaders and dozens of foreign heads of state and government, organized and held hundreds of exhibitions at home and abroad. It has become the city's main conference center and famous exhibition venue, and one of the windows for foreign exchange.
In 2001, the main building of Shanghai Exhibition Center was overhauled. After the renovation, the building style is more charming, the environment is more beautiful, the exhibition hall area is larger, the function is more perfect, and the equipment and facilities are more safe and reliable.
In the south of Shanghai Exhibition Center, exhibition area is composed of preface hall, central hall, East Hall, West Hall and West Hall. In the north, conference area is composed of friendship hall and rebuilt East Hall. The two areas are independent and connected with each other, forming a functional pattern of South exhibition, North exhibition and energy sharing.
Shanghai Exhibition Center is located in the center of the bustling Jing'an District, with Nanjing West Road in the north, Yan'an middle road and Yan'an Road Viaduct in the south. It has a rare geographical advantage in Shanghai.
A bird's-eye view of Shanghai Exhibition Center is like a flying airplane, covering an area of 93000 square meters, with a building area of 80000 square meters, 42 multi-functional exhibition halls, more than 100 meeting rooms, office rooms with a total area of 10000 square meters, cinemas, banquet halls, cafes, etc. There is a ring road connecting six squares with a total area of 15000 square meters, 15000 square meters of garden green space, more than 1000 square meters of large-scale lighting and music fountains and seven buildings. There are 9 gates in the north and south of the courtyard, which lead to Yan'an middle road and Nanjing West Road respectively. The traffic is very convenient.
