As a famous historical and cultural city, it is the long cherished wish of Guilin people to build a museum with local characteristics. In 1963, Guilin museum began to be built. Guo Moruo wrote the name of the museum. Due to various reasons, the preparation work went through many twists and turns, and finally the site was selected to start construction in 1986, completed in June 1988, and opened in December of the same year.

Guilin museum is located next to Xishan Park in Guilin. It is a group of Southwest stilts. It covers an area of 9000 square meters and a building area of 8500 square meters. Guilin museum is a local history and art museum with Guilin history and culture as its main content. There are preface hall, report hall, reception hall, information room, cultural relics warehouse and 8 exhibition halls, with a collection of more than 21500 cultural relics.
