South Africa has a strong demand for textile and clothing products. According to statistics of the South African internal revenue service, in 2016, the import and export volume of South Africa's textiles and clothing reached US $4.045 billion, of which US $1.113 billion was exported, accounting for 1.5% of the total export volume of South Africa, becoming the 11th largest export industry in South Africa; US $2.932 billion was imported, accounting for 3.9% of the total import volume. Among them, imports of knitted clothing and accessories reached US $750 million, ranking 21st among all imports of South Africa, and imports of woven clothing and accessories reached US $858 million, ranking 19th.
