The Three Gorges Water Transport New Channel Project, as the first major national landmark project during the 15th Five Year Plan period, officially started construction on June 8, 2026. The total investment of the project is 77.208 billion yuan. After completion, it will become the world's largest inland waterway lock, completely opening up the Three Gorges navigation blockage and reshaping the development pattern of Yangtze River water transportation.

Taking advantage of this century's engineering construction opportunity, the 2026 Yangtze River Shipping Engineering Equipment and Technology Expo will be held in Yichang, Hubei from December 17-19, 2026. The exhibition, with the theme of "New Channel, New Water Transport, New Future", is the first national level industry event after the construction of the project.
