2、 Market Introduction:

China is the largest import country in Kenya and one of the countries along the the Belt and Road. According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), in the third quarter of 2016 alone, Kenya's imports from China amounted to 98.4 billion Kenyan shillings (approximately 950 million US dollars), an increase of 2.8% year-on-year. Up to now, China continues to be Kenya's largest source of imports.

With the development of Kenya's economy and population growth, the demand for power generation capacity will increase to 1500 megawatts by 2012, 3000 megawatts by 2018, and 9000 megawatts by 2030.

The Kenyan government expects that there will still be an annual electricity supply gap of around 200000 kilowatts in the next 20 years, which can only be filled through imports. To this end, Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, as members of the East African Community, have reached an agreement to interconnect their respective power grids in 2011, so that the three countries can support each other in the face of power shortages. Kenya has also signed an agreement with neighboring Ethiopia, which has abundant hydroelectric resources, to import electricity from Ethiopia. In addition, South Africa is also one of Kenya's countries interested in importing electricity.
