The Anhui Provincial Party Committee and Government attach great importance to the development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry, and propose the grand goal of building the "World Capital of Traditional Chinese Medicine" based on the history, culture, and industrial foundation of traditional Chinese medicine in Bozhou. In order to conscientiously implement the "Support Policy for Fresh Cutting and Operation of Chinese Medicinal Materials in Bozhou City", vigorously implement the "14th Five Year Plan for the Development of Traditional Chinese Medicine" issued by the General Office of the State Council, and promote the transformation of China's pharmaceutical industry towards innovation driven development and accelerate high-quality development, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and nine other departments jointly issued the "14th Five Year Plan for the Development of the Pharmaceutical Industry" to do a good job in implementation, inherit and carry forward the traditional culture of traditional Chinese medicine, further strengthen cultural exchanges of traditional Chinese medicine under the new situation, and promote the service of traditional Chinese medicine to people's health.

Bozhou City has always adhered to the principle of using medicine to establish and strengthen the city. The planting area of traditional Chinese medicine in the city has remained stable at over 1.2 million mu, covering more than 2800 varieties of traditional Chinese medicine. By 2024, the scale of modern traditional Chinese medicine industry in Bozhou will reach 210.26 billion yuan, with 217 large-scale pharmaceutical industry enterprises. The entire industry chain system centered around the cultivation of traditional Chinese medicine, manufacturing of traditional Chinese medicine, and circulation and trade of traditional Chinese medicine has formed an industrial trend of "thousands of pharmaceutical companies, 100000 pharmaceutical merchants, millions of pharmaceutical farmers, and a market worth billions". It has become the world's largest distribution center and price index release center for traditional Chinese medicine, as well as the largest production base for traditional Chinese medicine decoction pieces, extracts, and health drinks in China.

In order to promote the trade of traditional Chinese medicine and increase its popularity, the County Committee and Government of Bozhou County organized the first session of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Fair on September 9, 1985. In 2006, with the approval of the State Council, the Ministry of Commerce sent a letter to the People's Government of Anhui Province, agreeing to hold the International (Bozhou) Traditional Chinese Medicine Expo in Anhui Province. Since then, Bozhou City has held the International (Bozhou) Traditional Chinese Medicine Expo and the National (Bozhou) Traditional Chinese Medicine Fair on September 9 every year. Up to now, 20 International (Bozhou) Traditional Chinese Medicine Expos and 41 National (Bozhou) Traditional Chinese Medicine Trade Fairs have been successfully held consecutively. The Bozhou Pharmaceutical Expo has developed into the most influential gold medal exhibition in the traditional Chinese medicine industry in China. It is an important platform for inheriting and promoting the culture of traditional Chinese medicine, attracting investment and talent, and is also a major measure to build the "World Capital of Traditional Chinese Medicine" and create a "bridgehead for traditional Chinese medicine to enter the international market".
