The Yalu River New Bridge, which has been dormant for 10 years in the autumn of 2025, is expected to open by the end of the year from Dandong, China to North Korea. The trade data between China and North Korea in 2025 shows that the total bilateral trade volume reached 2.735 billion US dollars, an increase of 25.5%, and 19.55 billion yuan, an increase of 26.0%. China's exports to North Korea reached 2.295 billion US dollars, an increase of 25.2%, and 16.4 billion yuan, an increase of 25.8%. China's imports from North Korea reached 440 million US dollars, an increase of 26.9%, and 3.15 billion yuan, an increase of 27.4%. China's trade surplus with North Korea was 1.855 billion US dollars, and 13.26 billion yuan, respectively,

The total population of North Korea is 26.4988 million, with Pyongyang's population exceeding 3.1 million according to the World Population Review's 2024 statistics. North Korea's main foreign trade partners are China and Russia. From the current characteristics of North Korea's foreign trade, China remains North Korea's primary trading partner, and North Korea has a high degree of trade dependence on China.

The 68000 square meter commercial complex jointly operated by China and North Korea is scheduled to open on October 1, 2026 in Pyongyang. It is positioned as a procurement base for goods within the North Korean national (central) plan (Chinese overseas warehouse), covering a comprehensive wholesale and retail market for building materials, home furnishings, hardware, and chemical products.

Exhibition Introduction

The 2026 Pyongyang, North Korea Spring International Commodity Exhibition and 2026 Pyongyang, North Korea Autumn International Commodity Exhibition are hosted by the Korea International Exhibition Society, a directly affiliated institution of the Ministry of Trade of North Korea. They are currently the largest and most effective international exhibitions in North Korea. This exhibition was founded in 1998 and is held once a year. Since 2005, it has been held twice a year in spring and autumn. The North Korean Spring and Autumn Exhibition is not only the largest international event of the year in North Korea, but its function is similar to China's Canton Fair. It is also the only way for foreign companies to enter the North Korean market. Chinese companies can take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the Pyongyang International Commodity Exhibition to showcase imported North Korean products to the North Korean people and find North Korean distributors and partners.

North Korea implements a planned economy, and all companies are state-owned. Every year, a large number of companies come to the exhibition site for procurement and negotiation. The exhibition attracts over 400 exhibitors from all over the world every year, with an audience of over 50000 people.

Previous Overview

In October 2025, 450 companies from North Korea, China, Pakistan, Russia, Thailand and other countries and regions participated in the Pyongyang Autumn International Commodity Exhibition. The exhibition areas were divided into building materials and furniture, motorcycles, electric bicycles, tricycles, light industrial products and household goods, mechanical and electronic appliances, food and healthcare products, etc. The total exhibition area is 15000 square meters and the number of visitors is 50000. At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Ambassador Wang Yajun of the Chinese Embassy in North Korea attended and visited the booths of more than 10 Chinese building materials companies organized by Beijing Frontier International Exhibition Co., Ltd.

Exhibition Highlights

Highlight 1

The exhibition has received full support from government departments and is hosted by the North Korean Foreign Economic Relations Association, a subsidiary of the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Economic Affairs. It is a national level exhibition in North Korea and the largest exhibition in the area, equivalent to North Korea's "Canton Fair".
