INTRODUCTION
40 Years of Glory, Embark on a New Journey! MTM Metal World Expo in Shanghai in December (book your booth now and enjoy early bird discounts)
In 1986, the MTM Metal World Expo (formerly known as the Shanghai International Metallurgical Industry Exhibition) was first held, ushering in a new era of international exhibitions for China's steel and metallurgical industry. 40 years later, MTM Metal World Expo invites global steel and metallurgical enterprises to attend this industry grand event, witnessing the historical leap of China's steel industry from following, running, and leading, and jointly seeking a new future of green and low-carbon transformation and high-quality development.
40 years of glory, embarking on a new journey
December 3-5, 2026, The MTM Metal World Expo will be grandly held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The theme of this exhibition is "Refining into Steel, Honoring Forty Years", which not only pays tribute to the 40 year industry history, but also marks the starting point for the next glorious 40 years.
Over the past 40 years, MTM has witnessed a great leap forward in China's steel industry:
-Production has surged: from 50 million tons in 1986 to over 1 billion tons in 2025, ranking first in the world for 29 consecutive years.
-Technological breakthrough: From introduction, digestion and absorption to independent innovation, domestic high-end equipment has achieved import substitution.
-Green transformation: The comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel has been reduced from 1.5 tons of standard coal to below 0.5 tons of standard coal, and the level of clean production is world leading.
-Intelligent upgrade: Over a thousand steel companies have launched digital transformation, and smart factories and black light workshops have become new benchmarks in the industry.
Eight themed exhibitions focus on new trends in the industry
This 40th anniversary celebration will be the best tribute to this glorious history and a new voyage towards the future. This exhibition has eight themed exhibitions, closely following the pulse of industry development, focusing on three main themes: green and low-carbon, intelligent manufacturing, and high-end materials.
1. [Metallurgical Industry Exhibition] - Core Battlefield of Green Intelligent Manufacturing
Focusing on low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen metallurgy, short process electric furnaces, and carbon capture and utilization, showcasing cutting-edge applications such as intelligent steelmaking, digital twins, and AI quality inspection, to help steel companies achieve their "dual carbon" goals.
2. [Refractory Materials Exhibition] - The Green Foundation of High Temperature Industry
Showcasing new products of long-lived, functional, and green refractory materials, as well as technologies for recycling waste refractory materials, to provide support for reducing costs and increasing efficiency for steel enterprises.
3. [Casting and Forging Exhibition] - High Ground of Precision Forming Technology
Focusing on advanced processes such as near net forming, additive manufacturing, and precision forging, showcasing high-end casting and forging solutions in the automotive, aerospace, and energy equipment fields.
4. [Steel Pipe Industry Exhibition] - Strategic Guarantee for Energy Pipeline Transportation
Covering high-end pipes for oil and gas transportation, nuclear power, hydrogen storage and transportation, showcasing breakthroughs in pipe technology for extreme environments such as ultra deep sea, ultra-high pressure, and ultra-low temperature.
5. [Metal Wire Exhibition] - Small Products, Big Achievements
Focusing on high-strength, corrosion-resistant, and high-precision wire products, showcasing high-end applications such as bridge cables and special steel wires for new energy vehicles.
6. [Industrial Furnace Thermal Exhibition] - Key links for energy conservation and carbon reduction
Showcasing energy-saving technologies such as oxygen enriched combustion, waste heat recovery, hydrogen energy combustion, as well as intelligent solutions for heat treatment.
7. [Titanium/Magnesium/Copper Industry Exhibition] - Strategic New Materials Field
Focusing on high-end non-ferrous metal materials in the fields of aerospace, ocean engineering, new energy vehicles, electronic information, etc., showcasing the latest applications of titanium alloys, magnesium alloys, and copper alloys.
8. [Alloy Materials Exhibition] - Frontiers of New Material Innovation
Bringing together cutting-edge materials such as high entropy alloys, amorphous alloys, and metal matrix composites, showcasing innovative products, technologies, and intelligent heat treatment solutions for metal powders used in additive manufacturing and biomedical metal materials.
Deep Focus on Industry Hotspots
In 2026, China's steel industry is in a critical period of transformation and upgrading. This year's MTM will deeply focus on the following industry hotspots.
1. Green and low-carbon: from commitment to action
In 2025, the steel industry will be included in the national carbon market, and carbon emission trading will become a new topic for enterprises. MTM will establish a "Green and Low Carbon Technology Zone" to showcase low-carbon solutions such as hydrogen metallurgy demonstration projects, CCUS technology, and short process electric furnaces, helping enterprises cope with carbon market challenges.
2. Intelligent Manufacturing: From Pilot to Popularization
AI big model, industrial Internet, digital twin and other technologies accelerate the penetration of the whole process of steel production. MTM will hold the "Steel Intelligent Manufacturing Summit", inviting benchmark enterprises to share their experience in smart factory construction and promote the digital transformation of the industry.
3. High end materials: from imported to independent
There is an urgent need for the localization of high-end materials in fields such as aerospace, nuclear power, and hydrogen energy. MTM will organize a "high-end material supply and demand docking meeting" to promote collaborative innovation in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain.
4. Overseas strategy: from products to production capacity
The steel demand of countries along the "the Belt and Road" has continued to grow, and Chinese steel enterprises have accelerated their overseas distribution. MTM Indonesia and Dubai exhibitions will form a global linkage with Shanghai exhibition, providing efficient channels for enterprises to go global.
