1、 Exhibition situation
The Shanghai International City and Architecture Expo (hereinafter referred to as the City Expo) is one of the important theme activities of World Cities Day. As the first United Nations global urban governance platform established by Shanghai, World Cities Day showcases the best cases of sustainable development in cities around the world through an international platform, promotes the achievements of various countries in the field of urban sustainable development, and promotes practical and feasible achievements and experiences in urban construction and governance. Highlighting Shanghai's urban soft power, it plays an important role in cultivating the spirit of the city and showcasing its character. Since 2015, it has been successfully held for 10 sessions and has become an international platform for promoting the achievements of China's new urbanization construction, a display platform for the development achievements of the Yangtze River Delta integration, an experience platform for Shanghai's urban construction and social governance level, and a high-end platform for promoting industry and enterprise negotiations, exchanges, and cooperation.
The exhibition area of the 2025 City Expo is 50000 square meters, covering 2 halls and attracting more than 400 exhibitors. This year's City Expo focuses on green, low-carbon, and high-quality development, helping Shanghai promote the implementation of the "dual carbon" strategy, build an ecological smart city, coordinate urban digital construction with ecological and natural harmony, and comprehensively showcase the core concepts, achievements, and application demonstration cases of construction, operation, and management in the sustainable development of high-quality cities.
The "Urban Renewal and Building Renovation Exhibition" was organized by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban Rural Development, the Shanghai Housing Management Bureau, the Shanghai Residential Construction and Development Center, the Shanghai Residential Repair Engineering Quality Affairs Center, the Shanghai Public Housing Operation and Management Affairs Center, the Shanghai Property Management Affairs Center, and the urban and town government infrastructure management departments, inviting more than 30000 people from planning and design units, engineering contractor representatives, key major projects, infrastructure investment and construction units, grid management departments of streets and districts in various provinces and cities across the country, owners of public construction projects, and relevant management (technical) personnel of large property companies to visit.

China's urban construction has gradually shifted from incremental construction led by real estate to a construction phase focused on improving urban quality through stock upgrading and transformation. The focus of future work will also shift from focusing on new construction to serving urban renewal and the sustainable development path of existing building renovation. Various regions are actively exploring urban renewal and renovation of existing buildings, breaking through bottlenecks in the connection between old and new, and creating conditions to address the needs of existing building renovation and market entities. Urban renewal, as a new way and path to optimize urban functions, guide intensive and efficient land use, and promote sustainable and healthy urban development, is increasingly becoming an important part of urban planning, construction, and management. With the rapid advancement of urbanization, the shortage of incremental land supply and the pressure to transform existing space have made the intensive development model of urban renewal with "existing space+industrial operation" as its connotation a new trend in urban development to enhance urban competitiveness, improve urban quality, and meet residents' wishes for a better life. It has become a new engine for improving people's livelihoods and economic growth.
China's urban construction will focus on improving the quality of cities and living environments, promoting infrastructure construction and upgrading, and building "beautiful cities".
