In February 2005, the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Government made a major strategic decision to establish a pharmaceutical industry park and build a Chinese pharmaceutical city in Taizhou, based on the foundation of Taizhou's pharmaceutical industry and the development trends of the domestic and international pharmaceutical industry. In November 2006, the construction of the Chinese pharmaceutical city officially began. On March 18, 2009, the State Council approved the upgrading of Taizhou Pharmaceutical High tech Zone to a national high-tech zone, becoming the first high-tech zone named after the positioning of medicine in the country. In February 2010, the mechanism of jointly building a Chinese pharmaceutical city by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health, the State Food and Drug Administration, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Jiangsu Provincial Government was officially launched, becoming the only provincial-level high-tech zone in the country. In June 2021, the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee focused on giving Taizhou the task of "building a rising central industrial growth zone". The major mission of "Extreme" is to initiate the integrated development of Taizhou Pharmaceutical High tech Zone and Gaogang District.

The overall planned area of the park is 30 square kilometers, consisting of six functional areas: scientific research and development zone, production and manufacturing zone, exhibition and trading zone, health and medical zone, education and teaching zone, and comprehensive supporting zone. We have settled in over 1200 pharmaceutical companies, including 14 globally renowned multinational pharmaceutical companies such as AstraZeneca, Nestle Health, Boehringer Ingelheim, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and Arabingdu. The park has gathered more than 4600 high-level talents in the field of biomedicine at home and abroad, flexibly introduced 10 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, gathered 71 national level high-end experts, and applied for the Jiangsu Province "Double Innovation Talents" program with 138 local applicants and 1731 high-level talents of various types in the "113" program. At present, the park has initially established a "4+2" industrial system, with the four leading industries being biopharmaceuticals, new chemical drug formulations, diagnostic reagents and high-end medical equipment, and modern traditional Chinese medicine. The two characteristic industries are specialty formula foods and animal health products. The park has independently cultivated 8 listed companies, including Maibo Taike, Yasheng Pharmaceutical, Ruike Biotechnology, and Zhuxin Biotechnology, which are listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Shuoshi Siye, Jindike Biotechnology, Yahong Pharmaceutical, and Kangwei Century are listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. More than 30 domestically and internationally "unique" and "first" industrialized varieties have emerged, ranking among the top ten in the comprehensive competitiveness ranking of national biopharmaceutical industrial parks released by the China Biotechnology Development Center for two consecutive years.
