The Uganda Electricity and Power Exhibition is an international exhibition for electricity, energy, electrical, electronic, and renewable energy in Uganda. The 4th Uganda Electricity and Energy Exhibition will be held from July 9th to 11th, 2026 at the UMA exhibition venue in the capital city of Kampala, Uganda. This exhibition is the gateway to Uganda's East African Business Community, where electricity and power professionals, importers and exporters, wholesalers, and decision-makers from the East African region gather. In 2025, there will be over 100 exhibitors from 8 countries, with more than 2800 professional visitors and a total exhibition area of approximately 3000 square meters.
Market News
1.
Uganda has significant resource advantages in the development of renewable energy, with a potential for renewable energy generation exceeding 5280MW, mainly reflected in abundant hydropower and solar energy resources. Uganda is located in the equatorial region of East Africa, with an average annual sunshine duration of over 2900 hours, making it suitable for large-scale development of solar energy. In addition, Uganda has an extensive river network, particularly the Nile River basin, which provides ample resources for hydroelectric power generation. These natural resource advantages have laid a solid foundation for the development of renewable energy in Uganda. The Ugandan government plans to increase the grid access rate of renewable energy to 80% by 2030, and renewable energy will account for 90% of the overall energy structure.
2.
Uganda is located in the center of East Africa, with a superior geographical position. It is located in the traffic artery of South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Burundi that flows eastward to the sea, so it has become a distribution center for goods entering these countries. As a member of the East African Community and the Southeast African Common Market Free Trade Area, Uganda's market can also radiate eastward to Kenya, Tanzania, and other Southeast African countries.
3.
At present, Uganda has launched an energy transition plan, which is a clear signal that Uganda is open to investment and cooperation. Uganda welcomes various investors, energy development companies, and technology and equipment service providers to participate in the large-scale long-term strategy of Uganda's energy transformation. According to the International Energy Agency's calculations, the annual investment in Uganda's energy market is expected to be $8 billion by 2030, and the total investment required for Uganda's energy market by 2050 will reach $325 billion. The high investment scale will provide numerous opportunities for various energy developers, technology service providers, equipment suppliers, engineering construction companies, and related derivative market participants, mainly concentrated in the field of new energy. Uganda has provided numerous incentive measures to attract renewable energy investors, including tax incentives and exemptions from technology related import tariffs. Uganda has also established the Uganda Energy Credit Capitalization Corporation (UECCC) to provide credit enhancement and technical support for renewable energy grid connected and off grid projects.
4.
In 2022, most of Uganda's energy comes from hydroelectric power plants, accounting for 78% of the total energy. The power generation of solar power plants accounts for about 5% of the total energy. Despite Uganda's enormous potential for renewable energy, its electricity sector currently accounts for less than 2% of the total energy supply. The potential of hydropower and solar power generation in Uganda has not been fully developed. The Ugandan government plans to increase its power generation capacity to 4200MW by 2030, making strategic investments and improvements to the transmission and distribution network crucial. At present, Uganda has established the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) to standardize processes and supervise supervision. In order to attract investment to the renewable energy industry, the Ugandan government has also issued the Renewable Energy Policy (2007) and subsidized grid electricity prices.
5.
It is expected that by 2030, the population of Uganda will grow to 59.44 million, and Uganda urgently needs to further build power infrastructure to meet the electricity demand brought about by population growth. At present, Uganda's total GDP is 52.39 billion US dollars, ranking 13th in Africa. Uganda's economic development heavily relies on agriculture, but the government is now focusing on diversified economic development, with renewable energy playing an important role in its national development plan.
