Underground pipelines, as the "lifeline" of cities, are key infrastructure for the safe and stable operation of cities. In May 2024, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Rural Development stated that China has fully launched the urban infrastructure lifeline safety project. According to statistics, the national pipeline network covers about 1.06 million kilometers of urban water supply, about 870000 kilometers of drainage, about 930000 kilometers of gas, about 460000 kilometers of heating, and about 170000 kilometers of long-distance oil and gas pipelines. The total length may exceed 3.5 million kilometers, which is five times the total length of pipelines in 2000 and is increasing at an annual growth rate of about 13.17%. However, the current level of pipeline construction in China is relatively lagging behind, with problems such as insufficient pipeline updates and repairs, substandard construction materials, slow promotion of new technologies, and lack of coordination in multi head management. It is urgent to fully promote the high-quality renovation and construction of the national pipeline network.
