The Food Expo is a large-scale national food professional exhibition first planned, initiated and cultivated in Wuhan, Hubei Province, and approved and supported by the former Ministry of internal trade, State Economic and Trade Commission, domestic trade bureau, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of industry and information technology. Since its establishment in 1995, after more than 20 years of development and progress, it has gradually formed a stable exhibition mode sponsored by Hubei Provincial People's government, China Federation of Commerce, China Food Industry Association and Wuhan Municipal People's government, and undertaken by Provincial Department of Commerce, Provincial Department of economy and information technology, Provincial Department of agriculture and rural areas and Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Commerce. Now it has developed into an annual brand meeting in the field of domestic trade. The previous Hubei provincial Party committee and government, Wuhan municipal Party committee and government attach great importance to the Food Expo. The vice governor in charge and vice mayor in charge are the director and deputy director of the Organizing Committee of each Food Expo; in order to make the food industry of our province bigger and stronger, the provincial government has built a platform for interconnection, intercommunication, exchange and cooperation with brother provinces (districts and municipalities directly under the central government), established the "Hubei food industry development promotion center" and worked together with the Organizing Committee of the Food Expo; the main leading comrades of the provincial government are responsible for the Food Expo The meeting conducted special research and held special meetings to determine the long-term support policies for the Food Expo.
Over the past 20 years, the fair has given full play to the advantages of industrial and commercial cooperation, regional cooperation, internal and external exchanges, and market development. It has been highly recognized by governments, business associations, and food production and sales enterprises all over the country. 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government), cities under separate planning, provincial capitals, more than 200 prefecture level cities, more than 10000 food industry enterprises above Designated Size, more than 400000 professional visitors and more than 20 foreign countries and regions participated in the exhibition economic and trade activities of the Food Expo in different years, and the total sales at home and abroad exceeded 100 billion yuan. The food industry has become the first core pillar industry in Hubei with a total industrial economy of nearly 800 billion yuan and profits and taxes of over 100 billion yuan. At the opening ceremony of the 19th Food Expo, Wuhan won the honor of "China's food trading city". Nowadays, the Food Expo is a household name, just like a festival.
In 2014, the Guoqing leading group [2014] No. 136 specially informed the Hubei provincial Party committee and the provincial government that after expert evaluation, the leading group examined and approved, and submitted to the Party Central Committee and the State Council for approval, it agreed that the Hubei Provincial People's government, China Federation of Commerce, China Food Industry Association and Wuhan Municipal People's government would continue to host the China Food Expo and China (Wuhan) International Food Fair. This is the only China Food Expo approved by the Party Central Committee, the State Council and the Guoqing leading group to be continued by the party and government organs at the provincial and ministerial level.
