Passive emitter and back (PERC) technology has become a new generation of conventional technology for solar cells, and the global perc battery capacity will exceed 100gw in 2019. Through the integration of Se technology, advanced slurry and metallization process, the mass production efficiency of perc battery in 2019 has reached more than 22.5%. In order to achieve lower production cost, suppliers of cashmere and back polishing process, back passivation process, laser process, conductive slurry and metallization process continuously improve technology and equipment to improve equipment production capacity and online rate, and reduce material and energy consumption.

At the same time, technologies such as selective emitter, multi gate and tunneling oxide passivation contact (TOPCON) are also being introduced into the standard perc battery process. Through the application of passivation contact technology, Jingke achieved a record 23.95% efficiency perc battery in 2018. At present, the highest efficiency of advanced p-type perc battery has been increased to more than 24% which was unimaginable before. Double sided perc battery realizes double-sided power generation with little cost increase and achieves 10% - 25% power generation gain at the system end, which greatly enhances the competitiveness and future development potential of perc technology.

For n-type battery, TOPCON technology can achieve full back passivation by tunneling oxide layer and doping polysilicon layer on the back of the battery. Moreover, the Polycon can penetrate two passivation layers without opening, avoiding the damage of silicon material at the opening and the combination of metal contact area. Passivation contact technology is also considered as a potential development direction of perc battery. Meyer burger has developed a technical scheme to upgrade the existing perc production line, which can increase the mass production efficiency of perc battery to more than 23%.
