Market Introduction:

The Philippines is one of the important electronic manufacturing and exporting countries internationally, and the semiconductor and electronics industry is an important driving force for the Philippine economy, as well as the largest contributor to the country's manufacturing industry. In 2021, the export value of electronic products in the Philippines was 45.92 billion US dollars, accounting for 61.5% of the country's total commodity exports, 12.9% more than the previous year's 40.67 billion US dollars, setting a new historical high. Meanwhile, in 2021, the direct/indirect employment of the semiconductor and electronics industry in the Philippines exceeded 3 million people.

On October 7, 2024, the Manila Gazette reported on a new study by the think tank Oxford Economics, stating that artificial intelligence is becoming a powerful driving force for the electronics manufacturing industry in the Philippines and the entire Asia Pacific region, rather than a threat. This study reveals a key fact: 75% of global semiconductor production capacity and important material supply are concentrated in Asia, especially in the manufacturing of high-end AI chips with a size below 10 nanometers. This discovery not only showcases the opportunities in the technology industry, but also highlights the important role of the Philippines in the global electronics supply chain, foreshadowing the country's potential for future economic development.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence is reshaping the global semiconductor industry, especially in the fields of data centers and smartphones, and the demand for AI chips is expected to significantly increase by 2030. This means that the Philippines, as one of the largest exporters of electronic products, is expected to gain more share in global competition. Currently, electronic products account for nearly 60% of the Philippines' total exports, with semiconductor products accounting for 45% of the export proportion.
