Since ancient times, there has been a saying in Chongqing that 'there are many city gates, temples, and tea houses'. Teahouses in Chongqing are spread throughout urban and rural areas, streets and alleys. Sitting in teahouses to enjoy tea has become an indispensable habit in the lives of farmers, merchants, men, women, children and the elderly. The abundance of tea houses in Chongqing can be seen from the March 1947 article in Chongqing's Xinmin Daily, which stated that "there are as many as 2659 tea houses in the urban area of Niudao, which covers less than 9 square kilometers", demonstrating the flourishing tea drinking culture of Chongqing people.
Chongqing is one of the birthplaces of tea trees in the world, with a production history of more than 3000 years. There are 40 districts (cities) and counties in the city, with 37 districts (cities) and counties planting tea trees. There are 10000 tea farmers directly engaged in tea production, with an annual tea output of nearly 20000 tons and an output value of about 300 million yuan. Green tea production is the main industry, accounting for 75% -80% of the total tea production in the city.
