Asia's flagship environmental exhibition welcomes trends and looks towards the future
As the world's second largest and Asia's flagship environmental exhibition after its parent exhibition IFAT in Munich, IE Expo China 2025, the 26th China Environmental Expo, will continue to be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center from April 21-23, 2025, with a total exhibition area of 200000 square meters.

In 2023, the production and sales of new energy vehicles in China have both exceeded 10 million units. With the explosive growth of the new energy vehicle industry, the "retirement wave" of power batteries has also followed, driving the battery recycling market to gradually heat up. Generally speaking, the service life of power batteries is about 5-8 years, with an effective lifespan of 4-6 years. It is expected that by 2030, with a large number of automotive power batteries entering the recycling stage, the amount of lithium-ion battery recycling in China will reach 6.028 million tons, and the market size is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan. In addition, with the increasingly significant role of energy storage in the global energy sector, the future battery energy storage capacity will increase significantly. It is expected that by 2030, the annual installation of battery energy storage systems will exceed 400 GWh, equivalent to ten times the current annual installed capacity. Retired batteries can be downgraded for use in backup, two wheeler, small energy storage, and other scenarios. For batteries that cannot be reused in stages, recycling can be achieved by crushing and extracting valuable metal materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. If not properly disposed of, these discarded batteries may cause serious pollution to the environment. Heavy metals are valuable resources, therefore, establishing an effective, safe, and environmentally friendly battery recycling and treatment industry will give China a key advantage in the competition for key minerals and green transformation.

The China Environmental Protection Expo and Shanghai Electric Power University will jointly hold the "2025 Retired Power Battery Resource Recycling Technology Forum and Exhibition Area" with the theme of green, low-carbon, and development on April 21, 2025.
