The China International Glasses Industry Exhibition was first held in Shanghai in 1985. In 1987, the exhibition was held in Beijing and was approved by the then Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade (now the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China), becoming an officially recognized international eyewear exhibition. Due to the fact that the eyewear industry is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Light Industry of China (now the China Light Industry Federation), this exhibition has been sponsored by the Ministry since that year. In 1997 (the 10th edition), the China Glasses Association changed the English name of the China International Glasses Exhibition to "CHINA INTERNATIONAL OPTICS FAIR", demonstrating the exhibition's position both domestically and internationally, as well as gaining the participation and support of businesses in the international glasses industry. And exhibitions are also regularly held in Beijing every September. The exhibition has a history of 32 years until 2019. Over the past 32 years, the scale of the exhibition has been continuously expanding and increasing in terms of area, exhibitors, and number of visitors, which proves that the exhibition has established a solid position and influence in the industry.
