Shanghai Museum of nature (branch of Shanghai Science and Technology Museum) is located in Shanghai Jing'an Sculpture Park, with a building area of 45257 square meters and an exhibition and education service area of 3220 square meters. The design inspiration of Shanghai nature museum comes from the shell structure of "snail". The green plant roof rises slowly from the park. The static and dynamic building is like a "green snail". More than 160 kinds of plants in the central landscape area are island like, just like the "virgin forest", forming a "landscape garden" with five "pools" of different sizes, inheriting the traditional architectural culture. Green roof technology has a good thermal insulation function, and the annual power saving can reach 240000 kilowatts. Green snail also adopts seven systems, including energy-saving envelope, energy-saving air-conditioning technology, comprehensive utilization of solar energy, air distribution in large public space, natural light conduction technology, rainwater recovery system, and ecological energy-saving centralized management platform. Together with the whole building, it forms a "green ecological building" that meets the star standard of national green building evaluation mark.

With the theme of "nature, human and harmony", Shanghai nature museum presents 10 permanent exhibition areas and temporary exhibitions, including the mystery of origin, the long river of life, the way of evolution, the exploration of the earth, the colorful life, the ecological Vientiane, the wisdom of existence, the edge of human and land, the story of Shanghai and the road to the future, through the three main lines of "the music of evolution", "the picture of life" and "the epic of civilization" Hall, 4D cinema, Exploration Center and other supporting functional areas. The newly established "natural history research center" is based on the rich collection of specimens, with natural history as the main research content, committed to urban ecology and biodiversity, the earth's "three poles" biology and evolution and comparative biology research, which will provide academic support for the collection, display and education of the natural Museum.
