INTRODUCTION

Passive emitter and back (PERC) technology is becoming a new generation of conventional solar cell technology. The mature manufacturing process and low capital investment make perc battery capacity easy to expand. In addition, the demand for high-power components in the upstream and downstream markets, photovoltaic industry actively expands perc battery capacity. In 2017, the global solar cell capacity is about 125gw, of which perc battery capacity is 35gw. Perc technology will be basically used in the newly built or upgraded p-type crystalline silicon solar cell production line in 2018.

Compared with the conventional battery production line, perc technology can effectively improve the conversion efficiency of solar cells only by adding back passivation and laser slotting sections, as well as proper coordination of metallization process. Perc technology improves the efficiency of p-type crystalline silicon solar cells to an unimaginable level. In October 2017, Jingke Energy announced a record efficiency of 22.04% for polycrystalline perc batteries, and longkeloye announced a record efficiency of 23.6% for monocrystalline perc batteries in February 2018.

The advantages of perc technology are also reflected in its potential to be compatible with other high-efficiency battery and component technologies to continuously improve efficiency and power generation capacity. The efficiency of perc battery can be further improved by the combination of multi gate, selective emitter and TOPCON. The cost performance of polycrystalline battery can be improved by the combination of diamond wire cutting and black silicon technology. While the double-sided perc battery can realize double-sided power generation without increasing cost, and achieve 10% - 25% power generation gain at the system end, which greatly enhances the competitiveness and future development potential of perc technology.

At the same time, the continuous improvement and localization of perc production line equipment, as well as the continuous progress of conductive slurry and metallization technology suitable for perc process, are also conducive to the promotion and application of perc technology. The mass production efficiency of perc single crystal and polycrystalline batteries will generally exceed 22% and 21% in the near future. However, in order to maintain the competitive advantage, perc batteries still need to further improve conversion efficiency, reduce costs, improve the yield, and solve the problem of light induced attenuation (LID).
